When not treating the spiritual aspect of the disease those behaviors are the types of things that will start to make life unmanageable once again. Instead of seeing spirituality as a means to correct a “flawed” character, it can be viewed as a tool to enrich life and recovery. It involves exploring personal growth, embracing self-acceptance, and finding joy in new, fulfilling activities that don’t involve alcohol. Another problem is the “flavor” spiritual malady aa of spirituality as it appears in many AA communities, texts, and discussions.

This stage challenges us to get completely honest with ourselves, God, and another person about the patterns of our past. By writing a fearless moral inventory, we uncover the exact nature of our wrongs, including unresolved resentments, fears, and harms we’ve caused. The idea of this group was to work through the twelve steps. I assumed this type of step workshop helped demystify the twelve steps for some members who found the steps too religious. Like myself, I knew members who felt daunted at the prospect of getting a sponsor and following suggestions. The BB study offered a supportive atmosphere in the safety of a group.

To be “entirely ready” means we no longer justify or cling to the behaviors and attitudes that have harmed us and others. The Big Book teaches that defects of character are the root causes of our addiction, and this step is about preparing to let them go, even when they feel familiar or comfortable.
Am I Responsible For My Disease
Admitting he may be somewhat at fault, he is sure that other people are more to blame. Is he not really a self-seeker even when trying to be kind? Is he not a victim of the delusion that he can wrest satisfaction and happiness out of this world if he only manages well? Is it not evident to all the rest of the players that these are the things hewants? And do not his actions make each of them wish to retaliate, snatching all they can get out of the show?

Therefore, the ALCOHOLIC MIND is a permanent condition. When THIQ is infused into animal brains, it produces what seems to be irreversible addictive drinking. Such animals, prior to being infused with THIQ would not drink even a highly diluted solution of alcohol. After being infused, they would drink alcoholic solutions and die just as many alcoholic humans do.
The only difference between the alcoholic and the psychopath is that alcohol doesn’t give THEM any relief (by bringing about ease and comfort for this inner turmoil) like it does for the alcoholic. No wonder why they sometimes end up going to the roof of a building and shooting college students. I sometimes start a speaking commitment by reading the above quote without saying who it is talking about, and then Sober living house asking if anyone in the room does not relate. When I reveal what it describes and where I got it from, I’ve had some pretty interesting responses. The effectiveness of the Twelve Steps is rooted in the transformational process they create when worked thoroughly.

I could identify when he went on to say, “the spiritual malady refers to a derangement of our thoughts, beliefs, and emotions. These things are out of whack and not aligned.“ The process of recovery is useful to remedy this problem. But, I don’t think David ever truly understood his disease. I say that because I watched him struggle with those old unresolved issues of his heart for years.

I had studied Emmett Fox, The Course in Miracles and was a card-carrying member of the Self-Realization Fellowship (originated by Paramahansa Yogananda). I proceeded to give John a discourse about the human ego, transcendence, and the Oneness of all things. This is a memorial to an old AA who gave it his best shot, but there were a lot of old ideas about self that David never fully dealt with by using ALL of the solution AA has to offer. Alcoholism didn’t need David to drink in order to continue trying to kill him, and in the end…it succeeded. In the end, instead of self abandoned…David abandoned hope…and discovered a bitter end. I know there had been a diagnosis of senile dementia, and I know that the doctor had added cancer to the list.
